I will say at the outset that I do not know what causes autism. I have not read convincing evidence that vaccines cause autism but I continue to read both sides of the argument. Of note I see that prominent anti-vaccine voices are softening their positions...recognizing that there is evidence in the prenatal period of brain changes associated with autism and that therefore more attention must be given to the prenatal period. I think it is important to note also, that while the incidence of autism is increasing the rate of vaccination is decreasing...over the past decade. If one wanted to play fast and loose with correlations (and I don't) one could say that vaccines protect against autism.
Which pharmaceutical company do you work for? You have not "read convincing evidence that vaccines cause autism"... How about all the parents that can directly link taking their child for vaccinations (multiple together which have never been researched for safety) and say their child experienced autism symptoms within days of the vax? They are just making it up? Let's have legitimate studies and settle it once and for all... It is obvious that vaccines can cause encephalitis in some children. An autism rate of 1 in 31 doesn't concern you enough to demand some tough research?
Thanks for your response. I can read that you are passionate about autism and I am too. I read everything that I can get my hands on as it pertains to research on autism. Now that one can see that neurological changes are present in the prenatal period and that the behavioural expression of those changes occurs in the post natal period researchers are turning their attention to toxicants that are present in all three trimesters of pregnancy. I am happy to see this research...but as with all families touched by autism it feels too slow!
